The Federal Secretary Education Dr Muhammad Athar Tahir visited the University of Sindh and met with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal. During his meeting the Federal Secretary informed the Vice Chancellor that he is visiting different Centers working under the Ministry of Education to see their problems and progress.
The Vice Chancellor welcomed the guest and briefed him about academic programs and on going research projects in different institutes as well as centers of the University. The Federal Secretary accompanied by Vice Chancellor visited the Area Study Center Far East and South East Asia and attended a briefing. Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Parveen Shah who is also holding the charge of Director of the Center on this occasion briefed the Secretary about on projects, MPhil and PhD programs, enrolment of scholars and seminars and conferences organised by the Center.
In the briefing it was further informed that the center was created under act of 1973 while the center has focused its research towards 15 countries of South East Asia Region. The Center is aiming to conduct MPhil and PhD research on different issues and organised a number of national and international seminars and conferences.
The center has digitalize library as well as 4500 books and research journals are available for the research scholars. It was further informed that presently there are 6 scholars registered for PhD, 10 for MPhil while 10 scholars recently have passed the course work for MPhil program.
