The KSE-100 index on Friday lost 80.54 points and closed at the level of 12,045.25 points due to investors concerns over the prevailing political situation in the country. Trading activities also remained extremely low, as the volumes at ready counter declined to 67.502 million shares, as compared to 103.069 million shares traded on Thursday.
The overall market capitalisation declined by Rs 20 billion to stand at Rs 3.239 trillion. Out of the total 343 active scrips, 146 closed in negative and 97 in positive, while the value of 100 scrips remained unchanged. Lotte Pakistan PTA was the volume leader with 12.711 million shares, however lost Re 0.21 to close at Rs 15.86. Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim inched up by Re 0.03 to close at Rs 43.31 with 5.026 million shares. Arif Habib Corp gained Re 0.05 to close at Rs 23.43 with 4.782 million shares. Descon Oxychem increased by Re 0.09 to close at Rs 7.98 with 3.488 million shares.
NBP inched up by Re 0.03 to close at Rs 78.90 with 3.477 million shares. Azgard Nine lost Re 0.16 to close at Rs 9.06 with 3.257 million shares. Fatima Fertiliser Co gained by Re 0.17 to close at Rs 12.33 with 2.750 million shares. Nishat (Chunian) increased by Re 0.12 to close at Rs 27.72 with 2.146 million shares. Sitara Peroxide surged by Re 1.00 to close at Rs 15.73 with 2.075 million shares. Fauji Fertiliser Co (FFC) gained Re 0.93 to close at Rs 134.06 with 2.024 million shares.
Dawood Hercules and Bata Pak were the highest gainers increasing by Rs 13.06 and Rs 10.93 to close at Rs 274.34 and Rs 542.26, respectively while Unilever Foods and Colgate Palmolive were the worst losers declining by Rs 46.58 and Rs 41.11 to close at Rs 1151.00 and Rs 818.79, respectively. Khurram Schehzad, head of research at Invest Capital and Securities said that the share market witnessed bearish trend, as the investors opted for selling due to prevailing law and order situation in the country.
The selling by foreign investors on the second consecutive day also affected market sentiment and the local investors opted to offload their holdings, he said. Selling was seen by the local retail investors and institutions, as the index remained in negative throughout the session.
