Taiwan stocks fall

Taiwan stocks fell 1.22 percent on Thursday, pressured by electronics shares as the industry outlook weakened on softening demand and by plastics shares as oil prices rose anew. Shares of computer contract maker Quanta fell 2.7 percent after a newspaper reported rumours that Hewlett Packard Co might sell its notebook unit to Samsung Electronics, potentially threatening its business as an HP supplier.
The main TAIEX share index fell 107.12 points to 8,642.90 after opening flat. Plastics shares fell 2.7 percent. Electronics shares fell 1.64 percent, while the computer and peripheral equipment sub-index fell 1.8 percent.
