International Women's Day was observed in Multan on Tuesday with a theme 'Equal access to education, training and science and technology: pathway to decent work for women.' NGOs and civil society organisation staged demonstration in which hundreds of women participated. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of women rights.
Addressing the rallies the speakers said that although we have been observing International Women's Day every year. According to the UNPF about 5,000 Muslim women all over the world are victim of honour killings. Pakistani society adopts a shameful attitude against women. Many are not allowed to choose their life partners. Many women are victims of sexual harassment and abuse. International Women's Day is observed to highlight the importance of women in society and the problems they are facing. If they are given equal opportunities, they can bring about a positive change in society. It is the state's obligation to protect and promote women's rights. SAHAR organisation held a candle lit ceremony, which was attended by the male and female activists.
