Chairman, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Syed Johar Ali Qandhari has demanded the government to allow 30 percent concession on power, gas and water bills for industries. He said that power tariff has registered around 104 percent in the last 26 months and gas tariff by 87 percent during the same period. He emphasised the need of reducing power and gas tariffs.
In a proposal to save industry, he said the State Bank should keep ground realities while taking steps and emphasised that mark-up rates for industries should be brought to a single digit. He was of the view that State Bank should adopt policy of consultation with business community which will help resolve issues faced by industry. The government should give up policy of taking loan from SBP.
He emphasised the need of legislation to curb the power generating companies' policy of increasing tariffs. Serious efforts should be made to overcome power and gas load shedding. Incentives should be provided to local investors and Pakistani living abroad to encourage them to invest in the country. Efforts should be made to improve law and order condition otherwise efforts will not succeed.
Industrial plots should be allotted on 15 years easy instalments and loans on 6 percent mark-up for a period of 5 to 7 years should be provided for construction of industrial buildings, interest free loan for installation of generators.
