The University of Technology Mara, Malaysia, (UiTM) has decided to set up a science centre in the name of former Chairman, Higher Education Commission Pakistan, Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rahman in recognition of his services for science and technology and higher education sectors.
The varsity will also honour Dr Atta with its D.Sc. degree as Pakistan and Malaysia needs to strengthen, promote and develop academic and research co-operation in various fields of science. This was stated by UiTM Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar, while speaking during a meeting held at International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University, on Friday.
The meeting was also attended by Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Director ICCBS, Professor Dr M Iqbal Choudhary and other faculty members. Addressing the meeting, Professor Dr Abu Bakar said the Malaysian varsity has expanded nation-wide with four satellite campuses, 12 branch campuses, nine city campuses and 19 affiliated colleges. With this network and 15,000 staff, it offers more than 300 academic programmes. It is also home to almost 120,000 students comprising bumiputeras and international students. He applauded the efforts and services of Dr Atta-ur-Rahman for the promotion of higher education in Pakistan.
