Another group of 308 Pakistanis stranded in Libya have been evacuated by ferry to Turkish port city of Marmaris and shall soon reach Pakistan through chartered flights. This is in addition to 354 workers who were earlier flown to Lahore on 28 February/1 March. Another group of 13 persons were sent to Pakistan on 28 February, Abdul Akbar, Press Attaché, Pakistan Embassy in Ankara told Business Recorder in an E-mail message on Wednesday.
He said out of these 308 passengers who have reached Turkey, 89 and 26 are employees of Turkish companies M/s Tekfen and M/s TML Construction respectively which are making arrangements for their repatriation to Pakistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is chartering PIA aircraft to airlift the remaining group of 193 persons from Turkey that also includes 8 minors. He said on the instructions of the Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan Embassy in Turkey has been designated as the regional focal point and co-ordinating all evacuation efforts. The Embassy has set up a field office in the port city of Marmaris and a 4-member Embassy team is facilitating Pakistanis in immigration formalities and their boarding and lodging.
