The Lahore High Court, through an application, has been moved to implead the US ambassador in Pakistan, Cameron P. Munter as necessary party into a pending petition on the question of immunity to an American national Raymond Davis involved in the double murder of two Pakistanis.
The application was filed by Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate, who had earlier challenged diplomatic immunity to Davis, either on the touchstone of Vienna Conventions of 1961 or 1963, terming them in conflict with the constitution of Pakistan and United Nations Charter on safety and security of subjects of a nation. He had contended that the president and the federal government are not authorised to extend any type of immunity to its citizens or foreigners when such immunity includes risk to the nation of the country.
