Jamaat-e-Islamai (JI) on Tuesday submitted adjournment motion to the Senate Secretariat against the rise in prices of petroleum products, terming the increase like dropping 'petrol bomb' on the poor of the country. The motion has been submitted by three senators including Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Professor Mohammad Ibrahim and Afia Zia under the clause 74 of the rules of business and conducts of 1988 seeking debate of the Upper House of the Parliament in its coming session by suspending routine business.
Referring to the print and electronic media reports, the motion says, "The government has dropped another 'petrol bomb' on the people by announcing 5pc to 9.9 percent hike in petroleum products prices." The senators, while flaying the decision, said that the rulers on one hand resorted to extreme level of injustices, while on other befooled the people by false claim of good governance, which is existed nowhere in the country.
"The rampant corruption, nepotism and favouritism in the government have been tolerating by the poor class since the government took the charge, besides the incompetent officials sitting in the national institutions, which miserably failed to address the problems of the underprivileged class of the society," said the senators in the adjournment motion, adding that the decision of hike in POL prices has added insult to the injuries of the already inflation-ridden and poverty-stricken people of the country.
