Senate Standing Committee on Finance here on Tuesday highly appreciated the recent reshuffling in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), reflecting seriousness of the tax machinery to increase the number of income/sales tax return filers for broadening the tax-base.
During committee proceedings here on Tuesday, some of the committee members termed recent transfers and postings as a positive step towards the documentation of the economy. Recently, the FBR Member Inland Revenue Khawar Khurshid Butt has transferred and posted a large number of tax officials to depute honest persons at key positions in the field formations.
Senator Talha Mahmood informed the committee that the recent transfers and postings would bring improvement in the system. However, reshuffling should be done at the operational level as well. Senator Islamuddin Shaikh also appreciated the recent transfers and postings in the field formations with the comments that it is a very good sign to bring reforms. He particularly highly appreciated the performance of recently appointed FBR Member Customs Mumtaz Haider Rizvi in policy and enforcement on the customs side.
Other committee members also hoped that the recent transfers and postings in the LTUs/RTOs would bring positive change, which would also help in speedy clearance of pending refund claims. During the meeting, FBR Chairman informed the committee that the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) would be merged with Nadra. The PRAL would work as a distinct identity, but later managed by Nadra.
