Station Officer of New Karachi Amir Hayat Khan received bullet wounds during protest staged by the workers of Dawat-e-Islami on the tragic death of their fellow member Junaid Sheikh after his funeral prayer held at Godhra Sector-G-11 on Saturday.
According to details, armed assailants gunned down Junaid Sheikh, who was the resident of Godhra Sector-G-11, on Friday.
The deceased was a prayer leader at Rabbani Mosque and an active worker of Dawat-e Islami. The funeral prayer of the Junaid Sheikh was observed at New Karachi, Godhra Sector-G-11 amid airtight security. After the said incident, tension engulfed the area as around 4000 enraged activists came on street to express their resentments in this regard. They shouted slogans against the law enforcement agencies and a banned religious outfit.
The protestors, who burnt tyres on road, also resorted to aerial firing and forced the shopkeepers to pull down their shutters. Meanwhile, the SHO of New Karachi Amir Hayat Khan, who was there to bring the situation in control, got bullet injury during protest. It may be mentioned that police and rangers personnel have commenced search operation at Godhra Sector-G-11 on Saturday and detained over a dozen of protestors, whom names have so far not been disclosed.
