The Federal Board of Revenue has approved a new organisational structure for the FBR Legal Wing to expedite early disposal of tax related cases pending before the level of Supreme Court of Pakistan and High Court. Sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that the new organisational structure of the FBR Legal Wing has been duly approved by the Board-in-Council.
During the meeting of the Board-in-Council, Ahmad Dildar, Member (Legal) apprised the Board of the Human Resource (HR) related issues in the Legal Wing and proposed to the Board a reorganisation plan of the Legal Wing. According to the plan, there would be two FBR Chiefs, one for Supreme Court and High Courts and the other for Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) and solicitation. The new structure proposed that there would be four Secretaries, which would be reporting to each Chief of the Legal Wing.
It has also been proposed that monetary incentives should be given to the Legal Wing based on three months performance after the reorganization. The Board approved the proposal subject to the improvement in performance by the wing. The FBR Legal Wing can play a most important role in recovery of government dues under litigation. The FBR Chairman Salman Siddiqui has given priority to the re-organisation of the FBR Legal Wing to improve its importance. This decision of the FBR Chairman would not only improve the working of the legal matters in the Board, but also speed up clearance of pending cases at the level of the judicial fora.
