Some people, who are obviously well-wishers of Punjab are intentionally or unintentionally trying to fan hatred against their own province, ie Punjab. For example; they are giving the impression that the anti-Kalabagh dam (KBD) people are enemies of Pakistan. If we accept this logic, then we have to accept that people of three out of the total four provinces are against Pakistan.
In that case what is the justification of the country to stay as one? On the other hand, if Punjab takes the lead and supports the present move to declare provincial languages like Punjabi, Balochi, Sindhi, Pashto and Seraiki as our national languages, along with the existing Urdu, the people of three provinces and Seraiki belt would support Punjab and this would create better understanding among all provinces.
Similarly, there was a move for creating further provinces. While dissolving the controversial "One Unit" in 1970, it was declared by our rulers that all provinces that existed at the time of the establishing of the "One Unit" ie 1955, would be restored but strangely the Bahawalpur province was not restored, even though it existed at the time. Such a situation created an imbalance, which is challenging the very existence of the country.
I request the chief minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, who is also one of the leaders of the largest party of Pakistan to play his daring, positive and leading role which would strengthen the country and also diffuse hatred against Punjab among the rest of the three provinces, as under:
01. Punjab should categorically lead and support the move to declare Punjabi, Balochi, Pashto, Sindhi and Seraiki as national languages of Pakistan also.
02. Punjab should support creating Seraiki province in Punjab as Bahawalpur province had a legal standing.
03. Punjab should declare categorically it would respect resolutions passed by three out of the four provincial assemblies against the controversial Kalabagh dam and stop terming anti-KBD as anti-Pakistan and anti-Punjab.
04. Punjab should respect the "Water Accord-1991" that allows a particular quantity of water to be released downstream Kotri to save 2.7 million people from thirst and hunger. Save the Indus delta - 6th largest in the world that is on the verge of an unnatural death with large-scale environmental hazards due to non-release of water.
I am sure if chief minister of Punjab takes the above mentioned steps, it would not only ensure a better future for Pakistan but also create good will towards Punjab and diffuse hared against the latter. Further, the name of the chief minister of Punjab would also be written in golden words in the history of Pakistan.
