Bijarani lauds KEPZ performance

Published Updated

Federal Minister for Industries and Production Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani has said that Karachi Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) is playing a key role in the economic growth of the country. The KEPZ has recorded 45% growth in exports during the month of January 2011 despite economic recession, which is an excellent performance.
This indicates that EPZA has been working efficiently in fulfilling its mandate regarding enhancement of exports. Therefore, the performance of EPZA has been a substantial contribution in the economic growth of the country, the Minister added. The exports from KEPZ during the last month ie January, 2011 stood by 39% higher at over Rs 2.518 billion as compared to Rs 1.817 billion in corresponding month of January, 2010. The export performance in the month under review was the highest recorded in any month of current year.
Further, the exports from July 2010 to January 2011 have shown stride of an average of 45% over the corresponding period of last year. It is worth mentioning here that EPZA maintained rising trends in exports during the recent global recession, which resulted in the shrinkage of developed economies.- PR
