Customs seize smuggled goods worth Rs 46.5 million

Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Multan Range during the last two weeks has seized smuggled goods valuing Rs 46.5 million. According to a spokesman of Customs intelligence here on Friday, its Multan range has intensified its campaign against smugglers, tax evaders and narcotics dealers. During last two weeks smuggled goods valuing Rs 4,65,00,000/- have been seized by the staff of the Directorate.
The Customs Intelligence Multan Range Office was successful in apprehending 4,500-kg grinded foreign origin poppy seeds on 09.02.2011, which was being carried from Sukkar for Ali Karyana Sadiqabad in a Bedford Truck No PN-5520. Three persons have been arrested and FIR has been lodged against the accused persons. Value of the seized poppy seeds is eight million, the spokesman added.
It may be reminded that Customs Intelligence Multan Range had during last week seized 443-kg charas and 47-kg of opium from a Toyota Corolla Car. During investigation, it was revealed that the narcotics smugglers were giving delivery of charas and opium regularly in these areas.
Four persons, including a lady were arrested while another Toyota Corolla Car, escorting the narcotics carrying vehicle, was also seized during the operation. Customs Intelligence Multan, during the last week, has also seized 29,420 litres of Iranian origin smuggled diesel at Sadiqabad, being carried in tanker No 5864. Similarly field intelligence unit of Customs Intelligence Sadiqabad, also seized 154 cartons of chocolate dry onion, 50 bags of Indian black tea and 33585 kgs of iron sheets, valuing Rs 35,00,000/-, the spokesman concluded.
