Taking advantage of the disruption in PIA flights, Air Blue has exorbitantly increased its domestic fares without any tangible reasons. Eng. M.A,Jabbar, former Vice-President, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry who was to travel by PIA to Islamabad on Thursday morning to attend an important meeting in the Ministry of Industries could not do so due to cancellation of flight.
Since the meeting was of important nature, he approached Air Blue where the person told that return fare is over Rs 30,000/- as against the normal regular fair of Rs 10,000/- to 15,000/. He told Business Recorder it appears that certain regulatory mechanism has to be invoked so that private carriers do not take undue advantage and fleece the travelling public.
The scenario, he said is not different than those of hoarders and profiteers who take advantage of the gap between supply and demand. Eng. Jabbar demanded that Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan should step in to correct the situation. He also said that since the PIA flight he was due to travel on was cancelled, he asked the PIA staff on duty to stamp his ticket so that he could claim refund without any late cancellation charges but they refused to do so.
