Faiz poetry CD launched

The much awaited CD of Faiz poetry sung by Tina Sani was launched at a press conference held here on Thursday in connection with the 100th birth day celebrations of Faiz Ahmad Faiz. The ceremony was attended by Chairperson Faiz Foundation Trust Salima Hashmi, representatives of Alflah Bank who were the sponsors of CD, I. A Rehman, Tina Sani and guests from India.
While addressing the press conference Salim Hashmi briefed the media about the week long Centennial Celebrations starting from February 7, 2011 which will continue till February 13th. She said that the major events regarding the centenary celebrations include a photograph exhibition, a book launch, International Mushaira at PTV, international colloquium at LUMS, an evening with Shabana Azmi, Faiz Aman Mela and Tina Sani Sings Faiz. She said that famous guests from India include Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhter, famous actress and singer Ila Arun and a number of writers and intellectuals will be present on the occasion.
She said that objective of the celebrations is to promote peace and harmony among people of all races and nationalities, transcending religious, ethnic and linguistic differences. At a time when the identity of the Pakistani people has been tarnished by crimes against humanity perpetrated by self-appointed protagonists of religion, there is no one better than Faiz to project the real self of the nation. Through Faiz we can show the world that the people of Pakistan are tolerant, peaceful, loving and warm-hearted, says a message.
Speaking on the occasion noted journalist and human rights activist I.A Rehman said that Faiz gave an alternative vision and his poetry was broad-based and was for all schools of thought, for he was a poet of peace and love. Speaking on the occasion Tina Sani said that Faiz has been a part of her life for quarter of a century and she considers him a guiding light, a source of hope and inspiration in bleak times.
