'Visas to Americans issued with authorisation'

The Pakistani embassy in Washington has issued visas to all Americans with due authorisation, Islamabad's ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani said. He said the number of visas issued to Americans in each of the last four years has been roughly the same and, in fact, last year fewer Pakistani visas were issued. Haqqani was rejecting media reports that cast aspersions on him in connection with issuance of Pakistani visas to Americans in the last few years.
"The embassy has not issued any visa without proper authorisation." About detained US consulate employee Raymond Davis, Haqqani said the embassy had issued a three-month official visa to Davis in September 2009 in accordance with the State Department's communication. He did not respond to other queries about Davis, saying the matter is sub judice.
