Bearish sentiments dominate on LSE

Published Updated

Bearish sentiments dominated on the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) on Tuesday and the equities registered declines amid descending transaction volume on account of lacking buying support. The LSE-25 index lost 43.14 points and was closed at 3753.20 against 3796.34 points of Monday, while trading turnover was declined to 4.377 million shares, as compared to 6.232 million shares traded a day earlier.
The market opened on a depressed note and kept on moving down during the entire day's trading. The market did not find any support at any level because of the investors' behaviour who continued offloading of their holdings throughout the day.
As a result, Pakistan Oil Fields, PSO, OGDC, Byco Petroleum, Sui Northern, MCB Bank, National Bank, Askari Bank, United Bank, Lucky Cement, Nimir Industrial Chemical and Lotte Pakistan PTA registered losses. However, Pakistan Refinery, Sui Southern, Bank of Punjab, Dewan Salman Fibre, and Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim resisted declines and ended in green zone.
The losers were more than the gainers, as out of a total of 113 active companies, 15 posted gains, 44 stayed in negative zone, while 54 companies were closed without any change at their previous closing. Among gainers, Pakistan Refinery was improved by Rs 3.75, Sui Southern was appreciated by Rs 1.30, Flying Cement gained 95-paisa, while Samba Bank and Pervez Ahmed Securities were up by 59-paisa and 50-paisa, respectively.
In the negative column, Millat Tractors lost Rs 7.50, MCB Bank was declined by Rs 3.80, Pakistan Oil Fields was depreciated by Rs 2.70, while PSO and Engro Corporation were down by Rs 2.06 and Rs 1.89, respectively. Nimir Industrial Chemical topped the volume leader with trading of 759,319 shares followed by Lotte Pakistan PTA with 748,712 shares.
