PARIS: Former Ireland fly-half Ronan O'Gara will leave the coaching staff at Racing 92 at the end of the year to join Kiwi powerhouses Crusaders, the French club said Wednesday.
O'Gara, 40, who played 128 times for Ireland, has been the defensive coach at star-studded Racing since 2013 and helped them win the 2016 French title.
He was under contract in France until 2019. The club based in the Paris suburbs, who are lying fourth in the Top 14 table, said they would reorganise "to retain our competitive edge".
O'Gara will join the defensive coaching staff at Christchurch-based Crusaders, who won their eighth Super Rugby title in July.
O'Gara could be the first of several high-profile departures from Racing 92 with 35-year-old World Cup-winning New Zealander Dan Carter rumoured to be leaving next year, possibly heading for Japan.
Scotland's Finn Russell, 25, has reportedly agreed to leave Glasgow Warriors to replace Carter.
