Federal Population Welfare Minister, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the PPP-led government is making strenuous efforts for fulfilling its promises and resolve people's problem on priority basis. Addressing a ceremony of collective marriages in the adjoining village of Marakiwal Sunday evening, the minister said government has initiated various programmes for the poor segment of the society and will accomplish its promise of 'Roti, Kapra and Makan'.
In this regard, she referred to initiation of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to address the problems of the poor segment in the country. She said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is the representative of poor, suppressed people and would continue its efforts for their rights, as these people were asset to the party.
Dr Firdous called upon the party workers to forge unity among their ranks for completing the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, and disseminate the message of the party everywhere. She said Sialkot will be made a stronghold of PPP and radical changes would be brought in the backward areas.
On the occasion, Acting President Punjab PPP Sami Ullah Khan strongly criticised Punjab government for poor law and order and deteriorating economic condition in the province. He said Punjab government has failed in protecting the life and property of the masses and suicide attacks at Data Darbar should be an eye-opener for Punjab Chief Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahreen Anwar Raja, State Minister Law and Justice said government would complete its constitutional tenure of five years despite (hatching of) conspiracies by anti-democratic elements. She said PPP has rendered scarifies for the revival of democracy and independent judiciary. PPP government is working on the mission and philosophy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for bringing the country and masses out of multifarious crisis, she added.
Federal Minister for Textile Rana Farooq Saeed, Minister for Zakat and Usher Noor-ul-Haq, Minister for Narcotics Control Arbab Zahar Khan also addressed the ceremony. Earlier, collective marriage ceremony of 30 couples was held. A large number of male and females attended the ceremony.
