Sindh government has agreed that priority would be given to local people in employment at Thar Coal Project so that their reservations, about the project, are dispelled. The PPP MNA from Tharparkar Mahesh Kumar Malani said this while talking to APP here on Friday. Malani said the government would soon start mining of Thar coal reserves.
The MNA said that educated youth of Tharparkar would be given employment opportunities in Thar Coal project on priority. He termed the coal reserves in the unexploited mines of Thar as black gold, which would change the fate of the district and said the district would become rich and its people would get abundant jobs to improve their lives.
He informed that Sindh government had already signed agreements with some local and foreign companies for starting mining work at Thar fields, adding that the survey teams of some companies had already started groundwork. He further said that before coal mining starts in the district, the government would take the locals into confidence and compensate them for their relocation as well as for their lands.
He maintained that government wanted to facilitate the local people and the first right to employment in the fields would be endowed to them. He informed that Sindh government aspired to launch mining work at the fields without further delay with the aim to contribute to the energy generating resources of the country to put an end to the electricity crisis. He said coal mining would not only help the government to deal with the electricity crisis, but would also stamp out poverty and tribulations of the local people.
