Weekly inflation decreases by 1.09pc

commoditiesISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on November 24, for the lowest income group up to Rs.8,000, has registered decrease of 1.09 per cent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 169.55 points as against 171.41 points registered in the previous week, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

The SPI for the combined group registered decrease of 0.84 per cent by decreasing from 177.36 in the previous week to 175.87 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 5.70 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.8001-12000 and above Rs.35000 witnessed decrease of 1.01 percent and 0.67 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 17 items registered decrease, while that of 13 items increased with the remaining 23 items' prices unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, sugar, garlic, moong pulse washed, masoor pulse washed, gur, red chillies powder loose, curd, bananas, mash pulse washed, rice basmati broken, rice irri-6, veg.Ghee loose, milk fresh and gram pulse washed.

The items which registered increase in their prices included, chicken live (farm), firewood, salt powdered loose (Lahori), wheat, egg hen (farm), tea prepared (sada), mustard oil, energy savor 14 wats, wheat flour bag, bread plain med.Size, georgette, L.P.G.( 11 Kg cylender.) and mutton.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, beef, milk powdered, cooking oil (tin), veg. Ghee (tin), tea, cooked beef plate, cooked dal plate, cigarettes k-2, long cloth, shirting, lawn, sandal gents, chappal spng.Bata, sandal ladies, electric charges, gas charges upto 100 cubic M, kerosene, washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel, tele. Local call and bath soap.
