olourtyISLAMABAD: The performance of dances, music and drama here on Thursday visualized the essence of National Intangible Heritage at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).

The event was the part of phase II of the project of National Intangible Heritage Archives jointly initiated Pakistan national Commission for UNESCO and PNCA, Ministry of National Heritage and Integration.

The project focuses on archiving the performing arts including music, dance, drama and films to compile the history of Pakistani performing arts and collect data of Pakistan's performing artistes under the title "Who's Who".

The enthralling performing art show was followed by a seminar addressing the value of collection of music, setting up audio visual library of music, dance, drama and films and scientific indexation and cataloguing of all available audio visual recordings material in all formats.

Experts and concerned authorities spoke on preservation, promotion and dissemination of intangible heritage with particular reference to music, dance and drama.

The performers in the field of singing included Shaista Zafar and Lubna Amanat while music grantees were Khizra Ambreen, Salama Iftikhar, Abdul Karim and Muhammed Daud Khan.

Rabia Kanwal presented the classical dance with dance grantees Muhammed Umair, Hiader Ali, Sadia Chaudhary and Rubeena Shabeer.

The skills of drama acting were presented by Fida Kazmi accompanied by Rahat Ahmed Khan, Fahim Jan, Afshan Nigar and Rukhsana Musarrat.

Capacity building for the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), enjoys highest priority in UNESCO's programmes, recognizing that effective implementation depends upon profound knowledge and understanding of the Convention and its concepts, measures and mechanisms.
