ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has welcomed the appointment of Sherry Rehman as Pakistan's Aambassador to the United States (US) and termed it an encouragement of the womenfolk.
Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV), she said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was translating the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto regarding women empowerment into reality.
She said previously some women had performed their duties as ambassador of Pakistan in the United States.
The appointment of Sherry Rehman reflects that the Pakistani women are capable enough and can perform any task they are assigned, she added.
She said it was part of the PPP's manifesto to empower women compatible with their capabilities and qualifications.
Replying to a question, the Information Minister said the Prime Minister had sought resignation from Hussain Haqqani for a free, fair and transparent inquiry into the "memo issue".
