Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, Secretary General Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi (Retd.), Director Marketing Sardar Naveed Haider, Director Operation Wng. Cmdr. Pervaiz Saeed Mir (Retd.), Director Finance Nadia Naqvi have expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the sad demise of former National coach Muhammad Aslam Japani.
Late was only home-based coach in the 62-year history of Pakistan soccer to win soccer gold for Pakistan from foreign soil. Aslam died after a prolonged illness on Monday. Aslam played for Pakistan Youth in 60s and later on served as the Sports Officer of Pakistan Wapda. His contribution for Wapda football will always be remembered and under his coaching Wapda won the 1991 National Championship at Railway Stadium and National Games 1990 gold at Minto Park, Lahore.
The memorable contribution of Aslam came in 1991 when Pakistan outclassed Maldives 2-0 to win the gold of 5th SAF Games Football Tournament at Colombos Sugathadasa Stadium 1991, Aslam Japani also acted as coach of Pakistan in Barcelona Olympics Qualifiers 1991, Asian Cup 1992. Faisal Saleh Hayat also approved him as Match Commissioner for Pakistan Premier Soccer league, PFF League in 2005.
PFF officials offered condolences to Aslams family. They prayed that Allah, the Merciful may rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant patience and solace to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.
