TORREON: A Mexican police commander and two other officers have been found shot to death execution-style in the northern border state of Coahuila, police said.
The bodies were found Monday in a residential area of Ciudad Acuna, 1,300 kilometres (800 miles) north of the capital, they said.
"The policeman each had a bullet to the head, and the commander had two," Coahuila police chief Guillermo Flores told AFP.
Coahuila, which borders Texas, has been the scene of constant clashes between drug traffickers fighting for control of drug and immigrant smuggling routes into the United States.
Meanwhile, nine police officers were arrested in the central state of Hidalgo on suspicion of links to organized crime groups.
The state's public security department said one of the police officers arrested in the city of Pachuca, 120 kilometres from the capital, was suspected of recruiting the eight other policemen to work for the Zetas drug cartel.
More than 45,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico since December 2006 when President Felipe Calderon launched an offensive by the military against the country's powerful drug cartels.
