Rs 7.58 billion being spent on six Southern Punjab districts development

Punjab parliamentary secretary Begum Zeenat Khan has said that a huge sum of Rs 7.58 billion is being spent on the development of six districts in South Punjab under an Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded initiative, Southern Punjab Public Services Project.
This project of paramount importance was launched on the instructions of Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi showing CM's commitment to end sense of deprivation among the people of South Punjab through infrastructure uplift initiatives.
ADB will provide 70 percent funding, 22 percent by Punjab and remaining eight percent by the towns/tehsils and the people, she said. The mega project was focusing schemes relating to water supply, sewerage, water treatment plants, link roads, slaughterhouses, and solid waste management in the districts of Multan, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh and Khanewal.
The project also includes development of rural areas. She said that a sum of Rs 1.744 billion was being spent in Multan city.
Tehsil-wise development allocation includes Rs 554.16 million for tehsil DG Khan, Rs 95.94 million for tehsil Taunsa Sharif, Rs 86.43 million for tehsil Jampur and Rs 41.88 million for Rojhan tehsil. Begum Zeenat Khan said that on instructions of Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the project Coordinator office has been up-graded as project directorate with the authority to give technical approval to ensure early completion of the schemes.
TMOs in each tehsil have been made project managers. Major allocation has been made for sewerage system and wastewater treatment plants. Giving details, she said that a sum of Rs 293.46 million was allocated for DG Khan tehsil, Rs 76.68 million for Taunsa Sharif tehsil, Rs 43.38 million for Alipur tehsil, Rs 69.48 million for Jatoi tehsil, Rs 185.7 million for tehsil Kotaddu, Rs 97.8 million for tehsil Rajanpur, Rs 70.8 million for tehsil Jampur, Rs 25.74 million for tehsil Rojhan, Rs 588 million for tehsil Bahawalpur, Rs 37.14 million for tehsil Yazman, and Rs 68.2 million for tehsil Khairpur Tamewali.
She said that a sum of Rs 1.5 billion was being spent in Multan city on sewerage system rehabilitation and wastewater treatment plant. For water supply, Rs 240 million was allocated for DG Khan tehsil, Rs 7.9 million for Taunsa Sharif tehsil, Begum Zeenat said.
