Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko successfully defended his IBF heavyweight title against American Lamon Brewster here late Saturday. The younger of the two Klitschko brothers dominated the fight with his powerful left jab from the opening bell and it was all over when Brewster failed to come out for round seven.
It was the 31-year-old's third successful title defence since he took the crown in April 2006. It also won him revenge for a shock loss to Brewster in 2004.
The American had not fought since sustaining an eye injury in losing to Sergei Liakhovich in April, 2006 and his inactivity showed as he rarely troubled the Ukrainian.
"Brewster was a tough opponent, but there was no way I could lose tonight after what happened three years ago," said Kiltscko who took his record to 49 wins in 52 fights. "I am in the best shape of my career." Brewster, who lost for the fourth time in 37 fights said he had no regrets that his corner had decided to stop the fight. "The better man won tonight," he admitted. "Vladimir beat me fair and square. I did my best, but he was on his game."
