Federal Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said Rs 3 billion out of Rs 16 billion reserved for the Nullah Leh Expressway project are being spent on drainage system, which he said would help controlling flood like situation in future.
Talking to APP here the other day, Federal Railways Minister said "to control spill over of water during monsoon season and heavy rains, depth of Nullah Leh would be deepened about one and half meter down," adding that would help resolve flooding problem.
He was of the view that with the completion of this gigantic project "destiny of the inhabitants residing along both sides of Nullah Leh would be changed as there would be an era of progress and prosperity. He said both sides along Nullah Leh would be commercialised and that would cause to boost, business activities in the area, he asserted.
Sheikh Rashid said some six interchanges would be constructed on the expressway adding this would be an alternative route for people of the area to avoid traffic jam and other traffic-related problems.
With expansion of Rawalpindi city, increasing number of vehicles, the residents have been facing serious traffic problems, which would be resolved through this expressway project.
Sheikh Rashid said the work on this project, started by Frontier Work Organisation (FWO) would be completed in two years time. He thanked President General Pervez Musharraf who has been kind enough in according approval and providing funds for this project, he added.
