To combat the expected heavy rain and flood situation Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive strategy, in this connection relief camps would be established in each district of the province, concrete steps would be taken with the close co-operation of non-governmental organisation (NGOs).
Adviser to Chief Minister on Social Welfare Saba Sadiq expressed her views while addressing the district Social Welfare Officers, here on Friday. Secretary Relief Brigadier Syed Ghazanfar Ali, Director General Social Welfare Syed Haider Mehdi and other officers were also present in the meeting.
On the occasion she encouraged officers to prove their abilities and use all out resources in case of any difficult situation. She said that 6,800 NGOs are affiliated with Social Welfare Department and they all should be engaged in flood-hit areas in the coming days.
She said that she herself would visit all the districts of Punjab and inspect on the spot situation. She said that Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has established separate relief department in Punjab, which would provide a big edge in extending in time relief activities to the masses.
Secretary Relief Punjab said on the occasion that in Punjab so far, districts of Sialkot, Jhang, Mandi Baha-ud-din, Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan have been declared sensitive and being watched constantly. He said that Punjab government is also sending 50 trucks of goods for the people of Balochistan.
