Imran Khan says COAS ‘stands by democracy’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that Chief of Army Staffs (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa ‘stands by democracy’.

Imran Khan made these comments while speaking at an event about PTI's Billion Tree Tsunami project on Saturday.

On Friday, the PTI chief called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed various national issues.

"The only thing I would like to say about the meeting is that the good news is that the army chief stands by democracy," Dawn News quoted Khan as saying.

He congratulated the army chief on his promotion and appointment, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said in a tweet.

While talking about ‘Billion tree Tsunami’, Imran Khan told reporters that about 800 million trees have been planted across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

He lauded KP ministers for taking the lead and not backing down in the face of timber mafias.

The PTI chief further claimed that 60,000 kanals of land worth Rs22 billion has been recovered from the timber mafia.

"Billion tree tsunami is just a stepping stone; we wanted to show everyone how this initiative can be executed and from here we will make it much bigger," Dunya News quoted Imran Khan as saying.
