English Ryder Cup pair Paul Casey and Lee Westwood on Wednesday withdrew from the European Open through injury. Casey, who lies sixth in the European Tour Order of Merit, stepped out of the tournament, which starts on Thursday, suffering from a bruised muscle in his back.
He received medical advice this morning that he should not play golf this week. Westwood withdrew suffering from a knee injury. Meanwhile, weather conditions improved on Wednesday easing fears that play could be disrupted due to the heavy rain around the K Club in recent weeks. The forecast for Thursday and Friday was generally dry, though the weekend could see a return to heavy downpours.
