Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has decided to convene a meeting of FM radio channels to apprise them of their immoral programmes, soources told Business Recorder. FM radio channels have been presenting a number of programmes like music shows, talk shows, and live documentaries for long.
"We are receiving complaints about the indecent as well as immoral programmes being presented by these radio channels. These complaints are about some music programmes being played by these channels, its host DJs and their substandard quality", the sources said.
They said that content of most of the music programmes was Indian instead of Pakistani. "It means these channels are promoting Indian culture. Most of the complaints are about DJs who use vulgar language during their live shows. Even some times, they present substandard poetry while communicating with the listeners", the sources said.
"We have recorded some objectionable programmes. So, we have solid proof against these FM radio channels", they said. They said that Pemra would also present its case to the Council of Complaints in the meeting. The Council of Complaints consists of the people who have been appointed by the Federal government and does not have any direct contact with Pemra.
The management of the FM channels would also be invited to attend the meeting. After going through the complaints against FM radio channels, Council of Complaints would decide about the penalties", the sources maintained. "The penalties may be in the form of fines or may lead to cancellation of the license of any FM radio channel", they said.
