Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock. Sikandar Hayat Bosan, said here on Monday that opposition leaders' willingness to participate in the London all parties conference (APC), ignoring the prevailing situation in the country proved that the opposition parties "have no interest in solving the people's problems".
Talking to newsmen about the APC, to be held in London, he said that it was not a 'conference' of all parties but a conference of a few political parties. He said that at a time when the country is in the grip of destruction caused by torrential rains and flash floods, and people are facing great hardships, the opposition leaders' participation in the London 'conference' was a big question mark that only opposition leaders could answer.
The Minister said that all ministers and the government representatives were busy in the relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas and areas devastated by rains, but these 'leaders' instead of helping the needy people were busy in preparation of the conference. He said that "all this shows that they have no interest in mitigating the sufferings of the people."
Regarding the statement of the Chief Election Commissioner about President's addresses to rallies, he said that his statement was regarding scenario after the announcement of election scheduled, and added that the statements had no connection with the present situation.
He said: "In his addresses, the President throw light on developmental agenda of the present government, and he speaks for the aspirations of people. Moreover, people like to see the President to inaugurate the development projects in particular area after completion."
About completion of the tenure by the present assemblies, the Minister said that under the constitution three options were always present regarding assemblies--dissolution of assemblies by the President or the Prime Minister at any time under the constitution; completion of tenure by the assemblies; and extension of one year in the time period of the assemblies by the parliament in case of emergency. He said that all three options were always present. However, the government wants the assemblies to complete their tenure.
