A few days back there was a news item that CDGK are planning a park on a 20km. stretch of Malir River at a cost of some billions of dollars. Is this a joke or a scam? To me it looks like a scam as it would be an ideal way to line pockets.
The Devolution system introduced by the present Government has been a total failure as it has led to autocracy, corruption and unaccountability. Has anybody seen the audited accounts of the CDGK? Have they been published anywhere? Have any tenders been called for these mega projects which have left most parts of Karachi dug up and in shambles.
Now with the construction of the Elevated Expressway the city will be in complete chaos. Do we need these mega projects when the citizens do not have drinking water, electricity, education, health facilities, etc.
Do the CDGK have a master plan for the city? Have they focused their priorities or are jumping from one mega project to another where they can make more money. For example the Boat Basin Park was a tolerable place till CDGK planned to redesign it. That was two or so years ago.
Millions of rupees worth of constructing material is lying there and the park is in total shambles as the CDGK found out that there was not much money to be made. Where is accountability? Where are the opposition parties? Why are they not raising this issue in the assemblies? I request the newspapers and private TV channels to do some investigative journalism which can make the life of citizens a little better.
