The second round of 17-day measles immunisation campaign will begin from Monday for children of age nine months to 13 years in eight districts of Balochistan. According to official sources, around 1.5 million children would be covered during the campaign in districts included Quetta, Khuzdar, Killa Abdullah, Killa Saifullah Mastung, Pishin, Ziarat and Kalat.
A total of 657 teams have been constituted for the purpose of successful implementation of the round and each team will have four members. It is mandatory for each team to have at least one Lady Health Worker, sources said. Besides these outreach teams, 212 fixed centres will be established where vaccination facilities would be available.
Special immunisation centres would be established in Government and private schools alongside Madaris in the eight districts. They said second dose of measlles vaccine provides lifelong immunity against the disease to children. They said taking cognisance of the increasing incidence of measles in the country, the government had embarked on a nation-wide measles mass immunisation campaign in the month of March 2007. The first round included four districts Mardan, Gujrat, Mirpur and Dadu.
