Dow University of Health Sciences has finalised its plan to establish an Institute of Health Management Sciences offering Masters in Hospital Administration and Pharmaceutical Management respectively. Professor Masood Hameed, Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences said here at a session organised as part of World Nurses Day Celebrations.
He said the programme has been specifically designed to cater to the growing need of qualified professionals in the country. It was mentioned that the institute is being opened on basis of close collaboration between private and public sectors. In view of constant increase in the number of hospitals and health care facilities at both private and public sector across the country there was said to be enhanced opportunities for well-trained professionals.
Masood maintained that medical graduates with additional training in management can be an asset for any country. Curriculum and course plan has already been chalked out and DUHS is currently in process of hiring teachers and trainers for the programme, he said.
The Vice Chancellor said this was in line with the DUHS commitment to produce competent professionals related to all aspects of medical care. The Institute of Health Management Sciences was said to be particularly beneficial for medical graduates as the courses will further strengthen their professional capacities coupled with better and additional job opportunities.
Graduates holding degree in pharmacy can also apply for Masters in Pharmaceutical Management along with medical graduates, Professor Masood Hameed said. Addressing the nursing students and nurses present on the occasion, he said DUHS has already embarked upon degree level training programme for nurses with the motive to seek due recognition for the profession.
Dr Masood Hameed on the occasion expressed his gratitude to the Aga Khan School of Nursing for their support in streamlining the training course. He also expressed his pleasure that apart from 100 students registered with B.Sc Nursing programme, the DUHS Nursing School is finalising Masters level Nursing Programme for the nursing graduates.
The DUHS Vice Chancellor said the University's Institute of Technology is offering four year training programme in clinical pathology, physiology, ophthalmology and so-forth. There were said to be other programmes too for medical technologists. The session was also addressed by nursing students and co-ordinator nursing training programme, Dr Sharaf Ali Shah and other senior professionals.
