Forty-nine healthcare units under the administrative control of Executive District Officer, Larkana will be handed over to President's Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) programme from July 1.
These basic healthcare units include Basic Health Units (BHUs), Dispensaries & Maternity Homes established by the Government of Sindh in the past for providing health cover to the villagers of rural and far-flung areas of Larkana district.
The units were without medicines and other equipment essential for diagnosis.
According to sources, 93 different medicines will be procured directly by PPHI out of which 45 would be procured solely for Gynaecological related diseases. The District Government will place staff, furniture, equipment & instruments along with present annual budget at their disposal.
District Support Unit has already been constituted for overall monitoring and staff has also been provided. Sources said that District Support Manager will sit in his office daily and will regularly visit the Units to monitor their work.
These healthcare units remained sick like industrial units and the doctors and other staff never attended their duties with the result the plan of the government miserably failed to provide healthcare at each village so that rush of patients could be managed. The other reason for failure of this plan is said to be lawlessness in these areas.
