Indian share prices closed flat on Tuesday in choppy trade as global markets remained weak ahead of this week's meeting of the US Federal Reserve, dealers said. The 30-share Sensex index rose 13.36 points or 0.09 percent to 14,501.08. Dealers said software stocks fell for a second day.
Gainers led losers 1,492 to 1,117 on volume of 46.77 billion rupees (1.14 billion dollars). The rupee fell against the dollar at 40.9 from 40.8 while it fell against the euro to 55.09 to 54.9. India's private sector carrier Jet Airways rose 5.5 rupees or 0.69 percent to 808.5 ahead of its full-year earnings report.
The country's third largest software exporter Wipro fell 6.45 rupees or 1.25 percent to 508.65 while second largest software exporter Infosys Technologies fell 13.4 rupees or 0.69 percent to 1,922.45.
