President General Pervez Musharraf on Monday reiterated that writ of the government will be maintained and ensured at all times. Chairing a high-level meeting here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr the President expressed satisfaction on the strategy and steps being taken to counter terrorism and extremism.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Minister for Information Muhammad Ali Durrani, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Yar Muhammad Rind, Governor NWFP Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai, Chief Minister NWFP Muhammad Akram Khan Durrani, Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hyat and senior civil and military officials.
The meeting reviewed and approved political, administrative and other concrete measures to effectively root out the scourge of militancy and extremism in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and some other parts of NWFP.
President Musharraf stressed the need for capacity building and improvement in capability of law enforcement agencies and gave necessary directions in this regard.
The President said it was important to wean people off taking the path of extremism by providing better job opportunities, development of facilities and poverty alleviation.
The President said a vast majority of the people in those areas were against terrorism and extremism and extending valuable support to the government. He said the government was determined to ensure development in tribal areas and other less developed and far-flung areas of NWFP. These efforts must be accelerated so that fruits of progress and development reach the common man, he said and added that it was the only way to combat forces of extremism.
