Task forces being deployed in most-affected areas: Ibad

Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan on Sunday said taskforces have been formed by pooling all possible resources which are being deployed immediately at 11 most affected areas of the city to ensure that KESC undertakes necessary steps to restore electricity there.
Talking to media after presiding over a high level meeting held here at Governor House to review the situation of the city after the stormy rain on Saturday, the Governor said the ministers, City Nazim, MPAs, MNAs, and he will personally be undertaking visits to these areas from Sunday night.
Senior Provincial Minister for Health, Syed Sardar Ahmed, Home Advisor, Wasim Akhtar, Inspector General of Police Sindh, Zia-ul-Hasan, City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Managing Director KESC and other high officials attended the meeting.
"The technical faults are primarily responsible for the current power outages in the city and may take some time to be identified and resolved but it will be our effort to make sure that KESC staff reaches the faulty spots and gets down to necessary repair work," said the Governor.
He said more than 700 feeders out of 1000 either broke down due to heavy rain or they were shut down as preventive measures. Most of the feeders have been re-opened now but there are still some minor and major faults causing electricity suspension in 11 most affected spots of the city.
"The taskforce will be undertaking visits to the power affected areas from Sunday night to ensure that these faults are removed at the earliest," Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan maintained. He hoped that positive outcomes will result from this exercise and the people will get relief soon and asked the citizens to remain patient.
To a question regarding poor response from KESC complaint centres, he said a mechanism has been devised under which Sindh Government and City Government will also be ensuring that the KESC takes prompt action to the power-related complaints of the heat stricken citizens.
The Governor said it has also been decided that complaint centres of City Government should also receive electricity-related complaints from the people and forward them to the concerned authority.
Ibad said the city is going through power supply disturbance due to natural calamity in the form of torrential rains with a strong thunderstorm witnessed on Saturday and the Government is doing everything to resolve the current power crisis.
He said some miscreants also join the people protesting against power outages and try to disturb the law and order. He said police and other law enforcement agencies have been directed to take appropriate action to prevent any such lawlessness.
