Provincial metropolis received heavy downpour on Saturday, which exposed the tall claims of the civic agencies regarding adopting foolproof arrangements for monsoon.
According to a meteorological official, the city received 11 mm of rain that lasted for almost one hour. The maximum temperature recorded was 35 Celsius degrees while minimum temperature was 28 Celsius degrees. Due to rain, humidity increased that was recorded at 60 percent.
Other parts of the country also received rain: Rawalakot 20 mm, Badin 19 mm, Saidu Sharif 16 mm, Karachi 16 mm, Panjur 12 mm and Rawalpindi 12 mm. For the next 24 hours, they forecasted more rain-thundershower, with isolated heavy falls, likely at scattered places of Sindh, Punjab, upper NWFP, northern Balochistan and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the downpour in Lahore did not make the weather pleasant, as after the rain it became hot and muggy, which made the lives of the locals miserable. It was just not the weather, flooded and muddy roads, which was a common sight right after the rain at various localities of the Punjab capital, also created mobility problems for the commuters.
The tall claims of the City District Government of being prepared for meeting the monsoon session faded with the rain. This was just a tip of the monsoon rain that upset the routine life in the city.
Moreover, Lahore which was in the grip of development work of roads and sewerage, flooded with the rainwater while debris turned into mud, which created cumbersome problems for pedestrians. People lambasted the civic agencies for failing to complete the development work well before the rainy session. They observed that every year the situation is the same and CDGK always start the work on sewerage and road building late, which was hampered by the rains in summer.
