The District Co-ordination Officer Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri has directed the officers concerned to complete lining of 70 annually targeted watercourses and get these verified from the consultants up to June 30, 2007 failing which action would be taken against them.
This he directed while presiding over meeting to review over ongoing development works for lining of watercourses under the National Programme of Improvement of Watercourses (NPIW) at his office on Saturday.
Addressing the meeting, the DCO Hyderabad said that present government was giving top priority to prevent water losses by lining the watercourses with a view to raise the living standard of agro-based community. He asked the officers that bottlenecks, if any, would be removed and they would be fully supported by the revenue staff in getting their targets completed.
He directed the officers that taking the benefit of their availability in the field, they should also impart and encourage the growers not only for lining of their watercourses but also for availing the good opportunities being offered to them by other agro-oriented organisations as well.
He also directed the EDO agriculture to ensure that his field staff was delivering their professional services to the growers properly. He said that District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil was taking keen interest in resolving the problems of farmers as such farmers community must be facilitated accordingly.
The EDO Agriculture Hyderabad Shuhabuddin Siddiqui while briefing the meeting informed that out of 70 annually targeted watercourses, 65 watercourses have been completed and the consultants verified 30 watercourses. He said that two teams have been engaged in this task and target of 35 watercourses has been assigned to each team. He assured the meeting that not only the target of 70 watercourses will be completed but also it would surpass by the end of June 2007.
