The City District Government Karachi is negotiating with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and CNG Stations Owners Association of Pakistan (CSOAP) for an "interim arrangement" to fill CNG buses between 12 midnight and 6am from next month.
Official sources in the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) told Business Recorder here on Thursday that under the "interim arrangement" PSO and CSOAP, would provide fuel to 125 CNG buses between midnight and 6am.
The new buses, a joint venture of Holland Bus Company and Kenhill Private Limited, would have special fuel cylinders, which would need to take fuel once a day, they said.
Sources said that this temporary arrangement was made to avoid any disorder or mismanagement on the CNG fuel stations, as other vehicles (apart from CNG buses) would also rush to the gas station in the daytime. For the establishment of separate fuel stations at CDGK depots for the 2003-2004 reconditioned CNG busses, the CDGK would invite proposals on public-private partnership basis.
CDGK would keep various options under consideration like subsidy on fuel prices and try to ensure "consistency" or "yearly change" in CNG prices, if needed to make the foreign-funded project viable, sources said.
