Fish harbour to have modern facilities shortly: Sindh chief minister

The Sindh government would ensure all up-to-date facilities at the Karachi fish harbour, besides Rangers would be deployed there to assist the reforms process.
This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, while talking to newsmen after presiding over a high-level meeting regarding fisheries, convened on the directives of the prime minister here at CM House on Wednesday.
He said that Rs 200 million had been earmarked in the ADP for fisheries to upgrade the fish harbour meeting the criteria of European Union (EU) so that unhindered export of seafood to EU could be maintained.
He said that various short- and long-term schemes had been planned to made fish harbour hygienic, while eight development projects would be completed with the allocation made in the ADP.
The chief minister has directed the Fish Harbour Authority to improve the hygienic conditions at the harbour and all measures should immediately be taken to upgrade it for meeting the international criteria, as seafood export was a major source of foreign exchange earnings.
He also directed to suspend the licenses of all old and outdated boats, while new auction halls should be set up and existing halls should be expanded.
It may be mentioned here that the Sindh budget for the next fiscal year allocated funds to establish jetties at Mubarak and Ibrahim Haideri villages.
