Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz assured on Wednesday that the general elections would be held under the caretaker government in a free, fair and transparent manner and under vigilance of the international observers.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said the exiled leaders would have to fulfil legal formalities for taking part in the elections. "Holding of elections under the caretaker government will improve the overall atmosphere in the country" he said and added a code of conduct would be devised for ensuring the transparency in the whole process.
Shaukat Aziz said PML (Q) and the allied parties would devise a joint strategy for taking part in the elections. He said a code of conduct would be formulated for the elections. The government and allied parties along with the opposition should evolve strategy to hold elections in a conducive and conciliatory atmosphere, he suggested.
He said the Government was also striving hard for making the atmosphere conducive for elections in order to avoid objections of rigging from the losing parties. The Elections Commission would ensure positive and transparent role in the elections, he said.
Responding to a question he said the international observers are more than welcome, as it could not affect the country's sovereignty, being a 'robust' thing. International observers might improve the effectiveness of the elections and credibility of the results, he added.
