Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz while rejecting any cut in the defence budget has said that credible defence of the country is the guarantee for peace in the region. Addressing a press conference here at his chamber on Tuesday, he said, "we cannot afford to be apologetic on the issue of defence of the country". Defence of the country is the top priority of the government.
Pakistan is a peace-seeking country and we don't believe in resolving any issue through use of force, he added. Prime Minister said that a nuclear Pakistan is the guarantee of peace in the region and we would continue to pursue a credible defence. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz also offered dialogue to all the opposition parties to help formulate a code of conduct for the next general elections."
I will personally contact to the parliamentary leaders of all the opposition parties. We have no ego problem on the issue of consultations. If they don't want to approach government on the issue, we will go to them and try to formulate a code of conduct for the next general elections", he said.
Prime Minister skilfully parried a question when asked how it would be possible for the opposition parties to agree on a code of conduct when the government is not allowing two former prime ministers to return to the country.
