Final computerised electoral lists would be ready by September 2007, Secretary, Election Commission, Kunwar Muhammad Dilshad said. Talking to PTV, he said around 46,000 display centres had been established across the country to facilitate more and more people. Names and location of display centres were available at web.
People are evincing great interest in visiting display centres. Information officers have been appointed at each display centre for guiding people and distributing forms for rectifying their objections. Around 500,000 forms have already been distributed among the people having objections on draft of electoral lists.
More than 950 revising authorities have been appointed from judiciary for removing objections of people and inscribing missing names in the electoral lists. The objections could be ratified till July 3, he said.
Responding to a question regarding missing names of millions of people from the new draft electoral lists, he said Nadra had issued 50 million computerised identity cards till May 31, 2007 while EC collected the data of 50.22 million people till October 31, 2006 through a transparent system. Furthermore the data received from Nadra shows that out of a total of 70.20 million eligible old list voters, 20.80 million people did not possess national identity cards. Also 6.8 million (old list voters) possessed duplicate identity cards, he said.
