The emerging electronic media in Pakistan is contributing towards the development of Urdu language like never before. Growth of English language as the only credible language in journalism has now become equal to the Urdu language, which is now lingua franca for electronic media.
These thoughts were expressed by the media educationist Professor Zikria Sajjid while addressing the certificate distribution ceremony of a three-day journalistic training workshop at the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Urdu University Karachi on Tuesday.
The workshop was organised by the department in collaboration with Pakistan Press Foundation. The seminar was also addressed by Fazal Qureshi, Chief Editor PPI, Tauseef Ahmed Khan, chairman department of Mass Communication, Federal Urdu University, Muhammad Irfan and Masroor Khanum.
Tauseef Ahmed Khan in his address urged the present administration of the university to provide the department with adequate modern media apparatus necessary to train students for the media market. He said it is ironic that university has no funds for department's seminar library and research journal. He emphasised upon the need for skill development of students and said only theory is of little use when it comes to getting better media jobs. Professor Zikria also emphasised upon the skill development of students according to the contemporary media market.
Fazal Qureshi said PPF is committed to providing practical training to students, rural journalists particularly women. He briefed students with the activities and mission of the Pakistan Press Foundation.
